Modern Ceramics for the Home

Is it strange that I seem to be following an abnormal amount of ceramists and potters on Instagram lately?

Well it seems not! This growing community of talented artists have a huge Instagram following and it’s easy to see why. For a start, the videos of them sitting at the wheel making the near impossible look easy and throwing incredible pieces of art is not only mesmerising but awe inspiring (if you haven’t already checked them out then what have you been doing with your time?!) And the creations are not only so so beautiful but also affordable and accessible.

My hippy mother who upped sticks to Cornwall and now spends her days creating all sorts of weird and almost wonderful ceramic bits and bobs (I’m now the lucky owner of a ceramic berry culinder) assures me that throwing and glazing are tricky at best, so I have a real respect for those who have honed their skills in the craft.

What is not to love about hand crafted ceramics? After all, each piece is unique, made with skill and possibly love, they bring character and imperfection, they are tactile with their smooth curves or rough finishes and they can offer an organic earthy feel that people are crying out for in our synthetic modern world. From the colourful highly shone to the simple neutral matts there seems to be something for everyone.

In celebration of ceramics here are some of my favourites right now…
