Before & After Terrazzo Ensuite Bathroom

Helen Shoemark

My client wanted to update her son’s ensuite bathroom. She was looking for something fun and modern but also a scheme that would work as he grew. And for any of you who have kids will know, she wanted a scheme that could take hard knocks and hide the splashes! The ensuite is fairly compact with a sloped ceiling, we wanted to add storage and also make the room feel larger.

After some concept boarding we settled with terrazzo tiles, perfect for hiding splashes and also available in large format slabs reducing the need for future grouting. The terrazzo was taken on to the floor and wrapped around the room in a half wall. We then added a splash of fun with high impact black and white matt tiles laid in a zig zag pattern on the bath side panel and within the bath and shower zone. A black wall hung vanity unit with plenty of storage was added, complimented by a black heated towel rail. The tap fittings chosen were chrome to help minimise the upkeep (vs black which can be troublesome with cleaning). A bespoke cabinet was built with upper open shelves. The walls, ceiling and woodwork were all finished in the same soft sandy colour helping to make the room appear larger.
