The Perfect Pink Tile
“I’d like to do pink tiles..but not pink pink, more blush or maybe natural, not girly, a grown up pink..does that make sense?” So this was how my search began for the perfect pink tile for my clients family bathroom. You see its not just the hue to take into account, it’s also the finish, size, shape and of course the budget; all need to have the right balance for the perfect pink tile.
I love the pink and clay bathroom trend but its subtle balance of natural hues is a delicate one deceptively difficult to achieve. The pink we know now and the way it is styled is a far cry from the pink bathroom suites of the 80’s, instead we are now searching for that gentle almost Mediterranean feel but with only an undertone of femininity which allows the alpha male to not only get onboard with the scheme but to actually like it. For my client the inspiration was from the soft plaster tones of seamless Tadelakt bathrooms and the modern clay palate incorporating pink, sand and ochre tones.
As with all big trends the product choice for pink tiles is overwhelming and the hues differ immensely, demonstrated quite nicely in my image below. You see, the thing is when each of these tiles arrived separately they actually all appeared pink in some way but of course when you start putting them into context either next to a paint sample or another ‘pink’ tile it is then you see their true colours. Some become lilac, some cream, others extremely pale pink and others bold saturated pink. Rose, Rosa, Matt Pink, Gloss Pink, Blush, Dolly, Desert Pink, Peony, Petal, Baby, Blossom, Bubblegum and so the list goes on!
Some of my favourites pink tiles are…
Hayek Hex Blush by Claybrook Studio.
Mandarin Stone Osaka Powder Pink Matt Porcelain and Gelato Rose Ceramic
Bert and May Pink Vigo Tile
I’m happy to say that after a very extensive search I found the perfect ‘pink’ tiles for my clients bathroom and I can’t wait to reveal the full mood board with you all soon!
