A Masculine Home Office Mood Board Design

Interior Design, Home StylingHelen ShoemarkComment

My husband works from home, he is somewhat of a hoarder and to be honest his office has turned in to a bit of a dumping ground. I personally have no idea how he can work in such a chaotic space, surely a more organised environment would provide a more enjoyable working experience.

So it seemed logical that he would be next in line for a room transformation. After plenty of questioning (and eye rolling), a classic masculine theme arose with the ability to house his ever growing collection of music posters. With this in mind the following mood board was created.

The materials centre around natural and hard wearing, with brass accents, wool herringbone, wood and leather.

The initial wall colour was a blue grey but after playing with the mood board it has moved to a more calming green/grey tone. We almost settled on Little Greene’s ‘Livid’ however now that I have the various tester sheets doted around the room it’s looking a little harsh so a slightly creamier green is needed…back to the drawing board! I have taken inspiration from the image (top left) of the dark gallery wall by Melanie Lissack Interiors as it shows the off-setting of print colours and acoustic guitar against a dark background.

To save money the existing wooden tallboy chest of drawers will have their handles replaced with leather and brass pulls such as these by Dowsing & Reynolds. The desk also needs to stay so no changes there, luckily its very inoffensive.

Although there is already an existing task lamp we also liked the idea of wall hung pendants either side of the desk for symmetry, focus and drama. These beautiful pendant lights with leather and wood detail by Warmly are perfect for the scheme.

There are so many executive chairs on the market, however it needed to be comfortable, height adjustable, swivable (is that a word?) and stylish. Pash Classics sell reproduction Eames furniture, a bit lighter on the pocket than buying an original, and includes this beautiful Tan Eames Executive Office Chair which fits the bill perfectly.

Additional storage is in the form of a wood and brass wall hung shelving system and an old skool metal locker cabinet by the Workshop Below (who by the way sell a fabulous array of lockers in all shapes and sizes including pink!)

Then for some fun detailing such as a geometric cream and burnt gold rug and this retro wall clock with brass accents.

It is yet to be decided where the herringbone will fit into the room, however ideas of a possible herringbone rug or a homemade herringbone lined pin board may be on the cards. Once the final decision has been made on the wall colour then work will begin and shots of the finished office shared with you all on this blog.
